Dissertation: Vickers, T. (2022). The Effect of a Pilot Parent Resiliency Training Program on Maternal Strengths Self-Efficacy Among Women Caring for a Special Needs Child.
This dissertation explored the impact of a pilot resiliency training program designed for mothers of children with special needs. The study aimed to assess whether participation in the program could enhance maternal strengths and self-efficacy. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combined quantitative measures of self-efficacy before and after the program with qualitative interviews to capture participants' experiences and perceptions. Findings indicated significant improvements in mothers' self-reported levels of resilience, coping strategies, and overall well-being. The study contributes to the understanding of how targeted support programs can bolster the psychological resources of caregivers, offering implications for the development of similar interventions.
Thesis: Vickers, T. (2016). Caregiver Well-being: Does Social Support Play a Part?
This thesis investigated the relationship between social support and the well-being of caregivers, focusing on those caring for family members with long-term health conditions. Through a survey-based study, it examined various dimensions of social support—emotional, informational, and instrumental—and their impact on caregivers' mental and physical health. The research found that higher levels of perceived social support were significantly associated with better well-being outcomes among caregivers. These findings underscore the importance of social networks and support systems in mitigating the stress and challenges faced by caregivers, suggesting avenues for enhancing caregiver support services.
